Latin singer Romeo Santos, also known as "The King of Bachata," is the latest YouTube sensation as his music videos were watched by over 4.3 billion people.
According to the data provided by YouTube's Artist Insights, the 33-year-old singer's views on the videos have surpassed popular artists like Taylor Swift and Beyonce. Santos earns the top position, while Swift has taken the second place with over 3.8 billion total views on her music videos.
You Tube arrived at the numbers by calculating "both official and fan-uploaded videos claimed using Content ID." The current data was calculated from September 2014.
Beyoncé and Katy Perry have over 2 billion YouTube views while "Hips Don't Lie" singer Shakira lags behind by 1.2 billion views on her music videos. Santos has more than 300 million total views from the U.S., his native country. The singer was born and brought-up in New York, where he is a hugely popular artist in more than 50 neighborhoods, writes the Wall Street Journal.
Santos, who has collaborated with famous artists like Usher and Drake, started his musical career as part of Bachata duo Aventura. Today, he has huge fan base in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Argentina.
Billboard also noted that the singer latest song "Propuesta Indecente" remained in "Top 100 Latin Songs," for a whopping 100 weeks. But the singer is not very keen to sing in English language as it is not his passion and he does not "feel the music" in that language.
"English is my first language, but musically speaking, I write my music in Spanish," Santos said.
