Greeksphones has created greeks!me as a new brand focused on the creation of wearables ahead of the competitive smartphones industry.
According to PC News, Greeksphone was the first Spanish organization to develop a smartphone, the first European company to unveil an Android-based phone, and the first universal brand to release a Firefox OS mobile device.
The company is reportedly getting rid of the handset industry. Greeksphone's multi-OS platform will remain in the public sphere, accessible for curious developers and current consumers.
"The company has always worked hard to balance needs of open source and community development," co-founder Rodrigo Silva-Ramos said in a statement. "In essence, all that belongs to Greeksphone is for users."
Meanwhile, the company was founded in 2009 by Silva-Ramos, Javier Aguera, and Maria Alzola and has gained a reputation among smartphone customers - although not a common brand as Apple or Samsung. Greeksphone seems to distance itself from such competition, Techno stream reported.
"Mobile telephony has undergone transformation to a large extent in the recent years," Silva-Ramos said. "Our perspective is that it is currently a sector with many players who have reached where they are without paying attention to creativity and concern for the needs of users."
Greeksphone officials lamented that the aggressive mobile industry has little room when it comes to paying attention to customers. Central to the philosophy of most mobile organization is profitability - and it is very hard for a firm to maintain competitiveness and business with such a principle.
The mobile market is competitive with players like Samsung and Apple dominating as others like HTC, LG, and Motorola fighting for the same market share. There is no room for smaller device developers, a rationale behind Greeksphone exiting the industry after six years.
