New rumors claim that Samsung is planning to release its next flagship device, the Galaxy Note 5, earlier than initially anticipated in order to suppress the rumored release of the new Apple iPhone in September.
A person familiar with Samsung's current plans told The Wall Street Journal that the company is planning to release its "oversize smartphone lineup" ahead of its intended release date. The device is expected to hit the market in the middle of August.
Samsung devices, in the past, has outsold Apple devices. However, the introduction of the larger iPhone 6 has tipped the balance over Apple's side and the iPhone 6 is currently the leader in terms of sales output.
If the rumors are true, Samsung could entice possible iPhone buyers by releasing the Galaxy Note 5 earlier than the rumored release of a new iPhone device.
According to CNet, timing will play a crucial role to Samsung's success. In 2014, Samsung announces the Galaxy Note 4 days ahead of Apple's announcement of the iPhone 6 Plus. However, Apple bested Samsung in terms of release date when the iPhone 6 Plus went on sale on Sept. 9 while the Galaxy Note 4 was released on Oct. 17. The one month head-start gave Apple enough time to market its device and eventually outsold Samsung's flagship device.
Several industry analysts also said that Samsung needs the boost in terms of sales output in order to stay on top of the smartphone market. Currently, several China-based smartphone manufacturers are slowly taking some of Samsung's market especially in Asia. Among them are Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei.
