Comcast recently announced that its Gigabit Pro Internet service will cost subscribers $299.95 cents per month and it comes with a two-year contract.
Comcast boasts that its Gigabit Pro Internet service is twice as fast as that of Google Fiber. Comcast Gigabit Pro offers theoretical speeds of up to 2gigabit per second in symmetric connection which means that both upload and download speed can reach the advertised speed. However, many industry analysts were quite unhappy about its expensive monthly price tag.
Gigabit Pro's $299.95 advertised price tag is four times more expensive than Google Fiber which costs $70 monthly, according to Wired. Additionally, interested subscribers must reside within one-third of a mile of Comcast's fiber network. On top of that, the high-speed Internet service from Comcast is only offered in selected cities scattered around seven different states.
Comcast's Gigabit Pro Internet service also require subscribers to sign a two-year contract which could cost the costumer $1000 if the contract was terminated before it was fulfilled.
Additional fees will be charged to the customer for installation which is around $500 and an activation fee of $500 is needed as well. Based on the fine print posted on Comcast's Xfinity website, the service will require custom installation and should take six to eight weeks or even longer to be finished.
Comcast announced the Giga Pro Internet service in April. During the announcement, Comcast promised to deliver a two-tiered Internet service; the 2Gbps Gigabit Pro fiber connection and a 1Gbps connection running on traditional cables. Comcast also said that most of its customers in the US should be able to avail of its new Internet service before the end of the year.
