The incident led the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) to rebuke Tencent, operator of WeChat, and Sina, operator of Weibo, for permitting the publication and sharing of the viral video on their portals.  The CAC took the two websites to task for breaching "some bottom lines" and "core socialist values" in China.
