The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has been designed to take on iPad Mini 3 with slimmer body and impressive specs.
Samsung has introduced two new Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 tablets sporting different screen sizes such as 8-inch and 9.7-inch. Since the iPad Mini comes with 7.9-inch screen, the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is being dubbed as iPad Mini 3 killer. Here is a comparison on the technical specs of both the tablets:
Design And Display
The thickness of the Galaxy Tab S2 is only 5.6 mm. It measures 134.8 x 198.6 mm and the Wi-Fi only model weighs 265 grams. Based on the specs listed with Phone Arena, the Wi-Fi and LTE model weighs 272 grams. It sports a metal chassis and comes in color options like black and white.
The iPad Mini 3 has a slim profile 7.5 mm. It measures 200 x 134.7 mm and the weight of WI-Fi only variant is 331 grams and the weight of Wi-Fi and LTE model is 341 g. The iPad Mini 3 features an anodized aluminum chassis. It is available in colors like silver, gold and space gray.
The 8-inch Super AMOLED display and the 7.9-inch IPS LED backlit display support a display resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. Both the tablets feature the fingerprint scanner embedded under the respective Home button.
Processor, RAM And Storage
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is powered by Exynos 5433 chipset featuring a 64-bit octa-core processor that includes four cores of Cortex A57 gunning at 1.9 GHz and the other four cores of Cortex A53 working at 1.3 GHz. It is coupled with 3 GB of RAM.
The tablet comes in native storage options like 32 GB and 64 GB. The expandable storage slot of the device can read up to 128 GB of microSD card.
The Apple iPad Mini 3 features the Apple A8X chipset that includes a dual-core 64-bit processor that delivers a clocking speed of 1.3 GHz. It is accompanied by 1 GB of RAM.
There is no expandable storage on the device but the tablet is available in three internal storage variants like 16 GB, 64, GB and 128 GB.
Camera And Software
The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 features an 8 MP camera on its rear side. The iPad Mini comes with a 5 MP iSight camera on its back. The front side of the Tab S2 houses a 2.1 MP camera whereas the iPad Mini 3 has a 1.2 MP FaceTime camera on the front.
The Galaxy Tab S2 comes preloaded with Android 5.0 Lollipop OS whereas the iPad Mini 3 Is preinstalled with iOS 8.
Battery And Price
The Samsung tablet is packed with a 4,000 mAh battery but the exact details on its performance is currently unavailable. The 23.9 watt-hour battery that powers the Apple iPad Mini 3 churns out 10 hours of internet browsing through Wi-Fi, video playback and music playback.
The pricing of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is expected to range from $430 to $540, Sam Mobile reported. The price range of the iPad Mini 3 starts at $399 for the Wi-Fi only 16 GB model to $729 for the Wi-Fi and LTE model with 128 GB storage.
