With the achievement of live-action Disney films, most notably Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland," "Robert Stromberg's "Maleficent," and Kenneth Branagh's "Cinderella," it has been reported that the House of Mouse is going to produce a live-action adaptation of one of its classics, "The Sword In The Stone."
"Pirates of the Caribbean" producer Brigham Taylor will lead the project's production and "Game of Thrones" writer and producer Bryan Cogman is set to pen the script, in line with the development of the big screen adaptation of the Disney classic, as per The Hollywood Reporter.
Aside from his contributions in the previous installments of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series, Taylor is one of the executive producers of Brad Bird's action-adventure film "Tomorrowland."
Taylor is also set to co-produce Jon Favreau's live-action adaptation of Disney's "The Jungle Book," which premieres in 2016. He will also executive produce Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg's action-adventure film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," which will hit theaters in 2017.
Meanwhile, Cogman has contributed as the executive story editor for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' hit adventure-fantasy TV series "Game of Thrones." He is also set to help in making a film-adaptation of Richard Garfield's trading card game "Magic: The Gathering." Cogman has also completed his adaptation of Jennifer A. Nielsen's fantasy novel "The False Prince," as per Cinema Blend.
Initially released on December 25, 1963, "The Sword In The Stone" is the Disney adaptation of the classic chronicles of King Arthur's humble starts. The story is notable for hailing Arthur as England's new king after he removed a legendary sword, which was stuck in the stone.
Aside from "The Sword In The Stone," Disney has revealed its plan of doing live-action adaptations for a number of its classic tales, including "Beauty and the Beast," "Jungle Book," "Mulan," "Pinocchio," and "Winnie the Pooh," among others.
The House of Mouse has also revealed recently that it is producing a film called "Genies," which will serve as a prequel to one of its animated classics, "Aladdin."
While the projects are in their early phase of development, Disney has yet to reveal the upcoming films' cast members, main plot, and release dates.
