The first batch of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Launch Edition arrived on the United States on July 2 and nine days after its arrival the first car was auctioned for $50,000.
The car was auctioned by online marketplace Proxibid, according to Cars Scoops. The auctioned car was a special edition and only 1,000 units were manufactured. One hundred percent of the auction's proceeds will be donated to a children's hospital.
According to World Car Fans, the auction took place on July 11. Additionally, the whole $50,000 profit will be donated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which in turn will use the proceeds to help treat children with cancer and other diseases.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Launch Edition sports a Soul Red painted body. The fourth generation car is integrated with adaptive LED headlights as well as 17-inch full alloy wheels.
The car's interior features heated leather seats, an audio system from Bose, climate control system and the Mazda Connect infotainment system. The winning bidder will also receive a Bluetooth speaker and assorted items from Mazda's upcoming Heritage collection line of apparel.
The 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata Launch Edition has a SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter engine and features direct gasoline injection and high compression. The 2.0-liter engine will be exclusive in the US while on other global markets a 1.5-liter SkyActive-G 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine will be released.
The 2016 MX-5 Miata's engine is capable of producing 155Bhp and 148 lb-ft torque. The car is available in either six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Regular retail price of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Launch Edition will be $30,495.
