Another life was lost to the dangerous sport of bungee jumping on Thursday when a 23-year-old British woman died from injuries after she hit an ancient Roman bridge above the River Tablate in Spain. Kleyo De Abreu leapt to her death from a modern, metallic crossing above the old stone bridge.

Her aunt saw the fatal second leap that left De Abreu dangling lifeless from the rope. Granada's Guardia Civil, who is investigating the accident, say they would check if the victim or the operator of the popular jump site miscalculated the rope used, reports the New Zealand Herald.

The British Health and Safety Executive reminded companies that offer bungee jump experiences to follow health and safety laws, and these firms are responsible for putting in place the right precaution, reports BBC.

The fall is supposed to be about 20 meters and then the thrill-seeker would swing below the stone bridge. For the first attempt, the bungee jumper pays about £24.50. Previous successful jumpers said the bridge, located in Lanjaron which is about 35 miles from Granada, is where thrill-seekers could have a huge dose of adrenaline.

Because of her parent's separation when she was young, De Abreu's mother moved her to South Africa from London. The victim, after she acquired a degree from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, returned to Britain and lived in Brixton, located south of London.

That gave her an opportunity to reunite with her father, Bernard Atwell, whom she did not see for 23 years. Atwell told BBC he has learned to accept the death of his daughter and hoped the tragedy would not happen to others.

The accident surprised Andy Ridell, technical director of the UK Bungee Club, who insists that safety standards of bungee jump firms in Europe are very good. Ridell points out, "I would say that your car journey to the actual bungee jump event is far, far more dangerous."

However, there are exceptions, and De Abreu discovered it the fatal way.
