"Wayward Pines," which ended with a huge cliffhanger, may have a prequel or sequel, as Executive Producer M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch have an idea for Season 2.
"I knew where we were heading for the finale and so we could architecture the 10-episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away, especially with such a wonderful reaction and all that stuff. But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea," Shyamalan told Deadline, when asked about if there is a Season 2 in the cards.
Shyamalan just teased stating "We have an idea we've discussed. That's all I'll say," and refused to give any other information about the said idea including if it will feature any of the major characters.
In the finale episode "Cycle," fans witnessed Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) wake up from his three-plus years coma, new denizens of Wayward Pines, as well as the dead bodies of those who had tried to escape hanging in the streets. Ben ventured into possibly a more violent version of Wayward Pines, in comparison to his father's journey.
At the end of the season, Ben was more likely in the same position as his father Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), allowing the fans to decide if the younger Burke will follow his father's footsteps or not.
However, showrunner Chad Hodge claims the end was not meant to tease a possible season 2, but "It was the end. Period. Really what it does is it comes full circle."
Hodge added that "What Ben does and how he responds will be up to your imagination to decide. There is no official season two yet, no talks yet. Nothing to report on that front," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
If there is a Season 2, it could possibly set after the events of season 1 finale, either with the same surviving case or the next generation of Wayward Pines trying to protect the mystery of the town.
Nevertheless, there is nothing official about it, and it would be a long time before any information about the Wayward Pines Season 2 gets leaked.
