Tianjin Samsung Communication Technology Co. (TSTC) revealed on Tuesday that new pre-installed applications will now come with one of its mobile phone models, the SM-N9008S, as reported by the People's Daily.
The new mobile apps are scheduled for release by the end of July, according to TSTC. Afterward, the new software will be available for download from the after-sales service hub of Samsung starting Aug. 1. Smartphone users can also delight in the fact that all the new mobile apps can be uninstalled, excluding the basic apps.
The Shanghai Consumer Council (SCC) performed a test on 10 of TSTC's mobile phone models on July 1. Upon gathering the results, SCC discovered that all of the 44 pre-installed apps in the SM-N9008S smartphone are fixed and could not be uninstalled. This finding led the SCC to sue the TSTC, as reported by the China Youth Daily on Tuesday.
According to the People's Daily, SCC's deputy secretary-general, Tang Jiansheng, stated that the SCC will recall its action against TSTC if the latter would be able to accomplish its obligations by Aug. 1.
Deputy secretary-general Tang also revealed another corporation whose mobile products were examined, the Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp. OPPO had already presented its software fixes to the SCC, but Tang still noted that it was a "pity" for OPPO to sway from its promise to consumers.
During the test, SCC found a serious problem on the X9007 smartphone, an OPPO product. The mobile phone was embedded with 71 pre-installed apps, with 47 that cannot be uninstalled.
If OPPO was not able to provide actual solutions, then the SCC would be compelled to push through with its legal action against the company, Tang said.
