It seems like the next “Legend of Zelda” game for Wii U that was initially scheduled for a 2015 release, will not see the limelight till 2017.
According to the Nintendo’s mid-year financial report, that lists the upcoming Wii U and 3DS releases, “The Legend of Zelda” has been listed as just TBD, while the other game titles like “Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games” and “Metroid Prime: Federation Force” sport a 2016 stamp. Project Giant Robot is also listed as TBD.
While that does not imply that Nintendo has pushed back “The Legend of Zelda” release to 2017, it does lend some weight to rumors that suggest that the company is not confident in the game’s status.
“The Legend of Zelda” was expected to make an entry at the E3 2015, but Nintendo kept it under tight wraps, suggesting that the game’s release might not happen this year.
The game’s possible producer Eiji Aonuma said that his team wants the game title to be a “complete and ultimate Zelda game.” This falls in line with the rumors that Nintendo is planning to launch the new game with a new console code-named NX, VG 24/7 reported.
The upcoming title is expected to follow the footsteps of the “Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” that was announced as dual platform on GameCube and original Wii. The new “Legend of Zelda” game will more likely have the new console as primary and the current generation console as the secondary.
However, it is better to take these reports with a pinch of salt, as Nintendo is yet to confirm anything related to the new “Legend of Zelda” release.
