The HTC One M9 is slated to receive Android M later this year. However, users of the HTC flagship are now receiving the Android 5.1 update.
At the beginning of July, Sprint made the Android 5.1 Lollipop update available for its users. On July 15, AT&T had started rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, Android Pit reported.
T-Mobile too has released the Android 5.1 Lollipop on July 27. As of this writing, there is no official confirmation as to when Verizon will make the update available for its users. However, the Big Red was expected to start the Android 5.1 update on July 20.
At the beginning of July, the Android 5.1.Lollipop update was made available for the HTC One M9 Developer Edition users, Android Central reported. The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for HTC One M9 brings enhancements to HTC Sense, data connectivity, W-Fi connection, temperature management, battery performance, fix for memory leak problems that came with Android 5.0 Lollipop and camera tweaks.
It is not clear as to when the Taiwanese tech giant will be releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for HTC One M9. HTC has not released the Android 5.1.1 changelog yet. Rumors are claiming that the Android 5.1.1 will be skipped in a bid to directly roll out the Android M update.
The Senior Global Online Communications Manager with HTC, Jeff Gordon had officially revealed the Android M update would be available for HTC One M9 handsets in the near future. However, he did not speak anything on the exact timeframe.
As far as the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is concerned for the older HTC One M8, speculations are indicating that the update will not be made available to its users. Instead, Android M update will be made available later this year. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on whether HTC One M7 will receive Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
