After three years together former One Direction band member Zayn Malik has called off his engagement to Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, amidst gleeful and sympathetic reactions from fans erupting on social media.
The engagement was called off two weeks ago and it reportedly left Edwards completely devastated. A source told Daily Mail she is extremely upset with the news of the broken engagement.
Despite having to deal with the emotional upheaval of the split, Edwards has continued with her work schedule, and has gone in straight into promotions for the band's latet single "Black Magic."
The publication, which said it is awaiting for a comment from either Malik's or Edward's rep, quoted a source as saying the singer flew into Los Angeles for promotions with her bandmates but the timing has been the worst especially with interviews lined up.
A source close to Edwards told People the young star has been finding the separation extremely difficult but is being supported by bandmates.
While Edwards has put on a brave face for fans on social media, she did not seem to mind posing for an Instagram picture posted on Jesy Nelson, a bandmate's account which clearly shows the singer lounging in the sun without her engagement ring.
With some fans extending sympathy via social media many One Direction fans have begun rejoicing over the news as Edwards has been blamed by fans as being the cause of Malik's early departure from the band in March.
The young couple began seeing each other in 2012 and became engaged in 2013. Recently, Edwards even gushed about plans to start a family with the former 1D singer before she turns 24.
The news of the couples' split comes less than a week after it was announced that Malik had secured a recording contract with RCA Records.
