Many Apple smartphone users are highly anticipating the new iPhone 6s or iPhone 7, whose release date will likely be in early September. However, many owners of the old-school iPhone 5 and 5s models will not be waiting in traditional or virtual lines for the new series. They prefer their smaller 4-inch touchscreen design, compared to the iPhone 6 (4.7-inch) and iPhone 6 plus (5.5-inch) screen dimensions.

Steve Jobs' co-founded company will reportedly launch its next generations of iPhone and iPad mobile devices on Sep. 9, according to Daily Mail. Features of the new phone will include a hardware overhaul and a "touch force" screen.

The iPhone 5 was launched in 2012, and the iPhone 5s was unveiled one year later. It is not crystal clear if 5s will get an upgrade in September or will be discontinued.

However, based on history the latter is very likely. The iPhone 6s will probably become the teach giant's entry level model, and the 6s will replace the 6 Plus.

Apple's ditching the iPhone 5 series could result in many unhappy customers. Although many buyers got a new 6 series model when it was released, they often gave it a spouse, lover, or other special person.

The reason is that size matters. In particular, many prefer a small smartphone, and consider the iPhone 6 to be too big and 6 Plus to be super oversized.

On the other hand, the 5 series units can fit neatly into a small bag or shirt pocket. Many owners of the 4S model, which was launched in the United States in October 2011, also prefer their units.

Besides the portability, several iPhone 5 and 5s owners also like their sleek and classic look. They are also more lightweight.

Perhaps the 5 series devices just need an upgrade. They could include boosting the RAM to run iOS 9 apps, a better camera, and a more durable case with stylish colors, according to ZDNet.
