"Grey's Anatomy" series creator Shonda Rhimes recently opened up about the upcoming season and new cast members Martin Henderson.
While speaking at the 2015 TCA summer press tour, Rhimes confirmed that "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will be much lighter than season 11. This does not mean though that the entire season will be boring because new cast members will be introduced.
According to Rhimes, new cast member Martin Henderson will only join the series sometime mid-season. The executive producer also debunked rumors that Henderson will serve as Patrick Dempsey's replacement on the show.
Rhimes added that Dempsey's character Derek was never to be replaced on "Grey's Anatomy" because he will always be part of Meredith's life, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile, Rhimes also weighed in on speculations that Meredith will consider finding love in season 12. According to her, Meredith may be single, but she is definitely not ready to mingle with anyone yet. This is because the death of her husband will continue to take toll on her.
Additionally, Meredith will surrounded by people who truly love her and care for her so she will be having a good support system, Deadline reported.
In other news, fan favorites Callie and Arizona will be ready to move on from their previous marriage. Rhimes hinted that the two could find love in season 12. Jackson and April meanwhile, will continue to struggle with their marriage because it has been confirmed that the latter re-enlisted in the service.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will premiere on ABC on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
