"Driveclub" - the PlayStation 4 exclusive sequel performed much better than anticipated at the retail level prior to the game being made accessible free on the PlayStation Network.
Through his Twitter, Paul Rustchynsky - game director - wrote that the game surpassed 2 million units in the sale at the retail level. Notably, it was a huge sale considering most gamers initially knew that the game would be made available as a free download, Tech Times reported.
The achievement seemingly occurred eight months after the game launch, prior to making it accessible free. Amid the widespread negative rumors about the game concerning the poor quality at the launch, it still performed well.
The two million units sold comprised both digital and physical platforms of the social media incorporated driving game, and achievement was before the free version hit, Game Informer reported.
Driveclub had a boisterous development background with talent reforms and multiple delays. The game was supposed to run on PS4 PlayStation Plus as a free download, although the version was never launched until June this year, nineteen months after the expected released.
With such a huge success, it is speculated that Evolution Studios will be creating a follow-up. The period for the sequel is unknown, but the move is likely before thinking about a "Driveclub 2."
Just because 2 million units were sold does not imply fans loved the game. A good number disliked it, but it is certain that in case Evolution Studios developed a follow-up and turned out to be a hit, fans will run for it even the more.
