It is confirmed that Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) will no longer be a couple when "The X-Files" revival debuts early in 2016.
Amid the separation, the pair still appears to have a good rapport, E! News reported. According to a video revealed to E! News, there seems to be no acrimony between the two characters.
In the clip, which has not yet reached the public, Scully visits Mulder out of concern, and the two have a lengthy conversation in which case Mulder talks about his current take on the big conspiracy theory.
According to 570 News, series developer Chris Carter initially hinted at the separation where he teased what the pair's relationship status would look like in the next six-episode series. He was quoted as saying, "As we noted in the second film 'The X-Files: I Want to Believe,' the two were together but not married. They were living together, but when we return will find that the relationship has changed."
"They have grown up. They have become mature in terms of sensibilities and the relationship that has also evolved," Carter added. "These two, who are open-minded, have done through a lot of reforms, and we will play that in this series of six."
Although Mulder and Scully are no longer together, the movie creator is optimistic that fans will still notice the chemistry between them in the next series.
"The X-Files" revival will also feature William B. Davis (Smoking Man), Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), Bruce Hardwood (John Fitzgerald Byers), and Sheila Larken (Margaret Scully) among other characters.
The revival debuts on Jan. 24, 2016, immediately after the NFL's NFC championship game. It then shifts to Monday nights beginning Jan. 25 and goes on for the following four weeks.
