While Real Madrid's Karim Benzema had long been the top target of Arsene Wenger for his Holloway club, recent rumors emerged that Arsenal FC may be switching to a new aim: Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.
It would have been a shock for Arsenal fans if the Gunners just tendered a bid for Cavani, but instead it just made the Benzema saga a little bit more interesting.
The Telegraph reported that Wenger was quite eager to acquire an elite striker since his team's 0-2 loss to West Ham United FC last week during the opening day of the Premier League's new season where their offensive woes were exposed.
Meanwhile, there were also rumors that Cavani had been unhappy since PSG acquired Ángel Di María from Manchester United days ago as he felt like taking another step back in the pecking order of Laurent Blanc's squad.
There were reports that Blanc and Cavani's relationship are currently "strained" as the Uruguayan striker wanted to play in the position of resident PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, something which the coach is not open to. This is reportedly the reason why Les Parisiens made a move for Di María, to act as an insurance if ever Cavani demanded a transfer in the middle of the season.
Bleacher Report indicated that the 28-year-old Salto native was sick and tired of playing in the shadows of the Sweden international and is just waiting for a team that would interest him.
And now that he got Wenger's attention, Cavani's desire to be transferred to a new team may soon be realized.
