"Torn" hit maker Natalie Imbruglia, 40, is back to the music scene after six years with the release of her fifth studio album "Male." In the new album, the Australian singer covers songs by male-led acts including Daft Punk, Damien Rice and The Cure.
"I missed singing," Imbruglia told Official Charts. "But initially I wasn't looking for this. I met one of my managers in LA and he convinced me to meet with some people and it sort of just happened."
According to Imbruglia, she said she was not going to get back into music unless they did it her way and with the right people. She said "everyone has been really great" and the point from that meeting to signing a deal with Sony Masterworks to having the "Male" album finished was "really, really quick."
Also, Imbruglia added she would just booked herself in to do a play, so they recorded the album pretty quickly so she could go and do the play before the release of the "Male" album. She said, "It's been a whirlwind and it's a very difficult industry, so I feel grateful to have a label that got behind me."
It was in 1997 when Imbruglia's song "Torn" became a hit. In recent interview with ABC News, she revealed that she was not enjoying her time in the limelight but after a six-year hiatus and briefly serving as "The X Factor" judge in the United Kingdom, she is now ready.
In the interview, Imbruglia described the "Male"as "very vocally driven" and "very reflective."
