Chinese movie star Zhang Ziyi is four to five months pregnant, according to a report by Chengdu-based newspaper Huaxi Metropolis Daily, claiming to have confirmed the rumor via sources close to Zhang's family.
On Sunday evening, the paper reported that its sources expect the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Memoirs of a Geisha" star to give birth around the end of the year and that she has already stopped taking film roles. The source added that her parents are very happy with the news.
Zhang has been engaged with rock musician Wang Feng since February, after reports of an elaborate proposal involving a 9.15-carat diamond ring designed by U.K. jeweller Moussaleff flown in via drone on her 36th birthday party. The two have been a couple since Sept. 2013.
There have been unconfirmed reports of Zhang and Wang having registered their marriage in Hong Kong some time after the engagement, but the reports were never confirmed.
Media in China has been speculating about Zhang being pregnant since March, after photos of Zhang taken at a promotional event for her film "Oh My God" displayed a prominent baby bump. This was later explained as a prosthetic that had a link to the sci-fi comedy she was promoting.
Earlier this month, rumors resurfaced after she again promoted the film in Beijing, displaying a baby bump. Once again, having prosthetics was the official explanation.
Sources claim that Wang had originally planned to announce the pregnancy with Zhang at his Shanghai concert on July 11. However, the concert was postponed due to Typhoon Chan-hom.
It is expected that the couple will announce the pregnancy on Sept. 26, the new concert date.
Prior to dating Wang, Zhang has been linked to several prominent celebrities, including Eric Fok, son of business tycoon Henry Fok, Israeli-American venture capitalist Aviv "Vivi" Nevo, and television host Sa Beining.
