It is expected that the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy S5 will get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update in 2015. Also, according to reports, many Samsung devices will receive the Android Marshmallow update.
However, Samsung Galaxy S5 may not get the Android 6.0 update. At present, the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is getting the Android 5.1.1 update in Europe. The update has been seen first in Sweden, Austria and Italy but is currently rolling out to other countries in the region through Samsung KIES, SamMobile reported. The build version of the update is N910FXXU1COH4.
For users of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in the United States, this OS version is available for Sprint subscribers. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is expected to receive an Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update in the U.S. soon after the Android M operating system gets launched in the third quarter of this year. Major US carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T have confirmed that the firmware upgrade will surely come; however, an exact release date has not been revealed.
Users of Samsung Galaxy Note Edge in Canada were among the first to get the Android 5.1.1 update.
Also, it is confirmed that the Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 will get the Android Marshmallow update. According to reports, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 Duos, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Tab A, Galaxy Note 4 Duos, Galaxy ALPHA, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy S6 will be treated with the latest operating system by the end of 2015.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will not get the Android M update. However, according to a Tech Times report, the move to exclude the Samsung Galaxy S5 is temporary as the mobile manufacturer Samsung may be planning to roll out Android Marshallow update to its latest devices first.
At present, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop over-the-air release for Samsung Galaxy S5 devices is being sent out in phases for users on Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. Users can go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update to see if the Android 5.1.1 update is available.
