Patty Jenkins' upcoming DC Comics film "Wonder Woman" has been reported to film in Italy's Basilicata.
According to Yahoo Italy, Basilicata carries on to be a "global player" with a Hollywood film choosing it as one of its filming locations. Along with Jenkins' "Wonder Woman," the territory is also known as filming site of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," Timur Bekmambetov's historical drama "Ben-Hur," and a "Julius Caesar" film starring Al Pacino.
Also known as Lucania, Basilicata's landscape is comprised of mountain ranges, dark forested valleys, and villages. The northern part of the landscape lays a fertile area of hills and valleys, once covered in profuse forests.
As per Cinema Blend, the locale also lavish in seaside locations, along with the Riman Columns and the ancient city Mattera, which are perfect for Themyscira, Wonder Woman's home island.
"Fast and Furious" actress Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman while "Star Trek" actor Chris Pine is playing the role of Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's love interest. The upcoming film is set to be a gateway for the "Justice League" in DC's Cinematic Universe, along with Zack Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
With Jenkins set to helm the film, Jason Fuchs is on board to pen the film screenplay, along with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Geoff Johns, as the film producers.
Jenkin's "Wonder Woman" is set to premiere in theaters on June 23, 2017 while Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is slated to hit theaters in United States on March 25, 2016.
