Chinese telecommunications equipment company has already unveiled its new super-sized smartphone, Mate S, at Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) trade show. This is Huawei’s first major smartphone announcement after they launched Ascend P8 in April in London.
Huawei Mate S features a 5.5.-inch screen with Force Touch technology similar to Apple Watch. The 1080p LCD screen has a “2.5D” slight curve, with a 401 ppi sharpness. The screen also allows the users to “hard press” its base to bring up app shortcuts and multitasked applications, zoom in on some portions of photos, and make use of the screen as a set of weighing scales.
Mate S is also introducing Knuckle Sense 2.0. This feature will allow the use of knuckles to swipe the screen. Knuckle Sense 2.0 allows the users to use their knuckles on the screen to pull off various actions like launching apps, Gizmodo reported.
Also, it has an updated digit decipherer that helps in showing up notifications on a vertical slide and scrolling through images via horizontal slide. Digit decipher also functions as selfie trigger, keeping out the fingers from covering the shot.
The company claims that the dual diamond cut unibody Mate S is on 2.65 mm at its thinnest point, and 7.2 mm at its thickest. It comes with second generation of Huawei's fingerprint sensor that can be used for different tasks like erasing notifications, holding and accepting calls, and viewing photos. The company claims that its recognition speed is 100 percent improved compared to Mate 7, according to Wired UK.
The Mate S runs under Android 5.1.1 with Huawei's EMUI and powered by a new Hisilicon Kirin 935 processor. It has a 3GB of RAM, with two options of 32GB and 64GB internal storage, and a 2,700mAh battery.
Featuring a 13-MP rear camera and an impressive 8-MP front camera with “selfie light” that works best when the users hold the device at full arm's' length, the Mate S also supports two SIM cards or one of them can be used for a MicroSD card.
Huawei Mate S comes in pink, champagne, grey and gold shade and the online pre-order starts on Sept. 15 in United Kingdom stores for more than $700. Huawei stated that the company has no plans of bringing the newly unveiled smartphone in the United States.
