Popular HBO drama "Game of Thrones" has set a record with its season 5 episode 2 "The House of Black and White" featuring Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark.
Broadcast in 173 countries simultaneously in order to thwart attempts at illegal downloads when season 5 premiered, "Game of Thrones" season 5 episode 2 found its ways into the 2016 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records earning a place in its pages for having the largest TV Drama simulcast. The episode beat the record set five weeks previously by the show "CSI."
With the particular episode focusing on Arya Stark, organizers felt it would be fitting for Williams to accept the award on behalf of the cast and crew of the series. "The Falling" and "Cyberbully" star said she was delighted for the "Game Of Thrones" series to have been part of the world-famous records.
A TV adaptation of the fantasy saga "A Song Of Ice And Fire" by George R. R. Martin, "Game of Thrones" first aired its pilot in 2011. While it is shot in a studio in Belfast, the show varies its locations across the world based on the diverse visual scenes presented in each episode which costs $6 million to produce, according to Comic Book.
It is the second time that the series made it into the Guinness World Records which has previously held the dubious title in 2012 for being the most pirated television program.
In a bid to combat illegal downloads, HBO shifted its distribution network worldwide and launched HBO, which is the cable's first streaming service that does not require a subscription. The cable channel offered a 30-day free trial in April allowing users to binge on the entire series for free and legally.
