The fourth season will reveal more information on Kira's (Skyler Wexler) background and try to give an explanation concerning her actions, in a manner that does not incorporate science, making her character humane, Hollywood Reporter noted.

Season 3 finale revealed that Delphine (Evelyn Bronchu) was shot, and viewers wondered who carried out the shooting. Delphine's shooting in season 3 raises concern from the fans as to whether she is alive or dead. The uproar amuses creators Graeme Mason and John Fawcett, who decide to inform the fans during Comic-Con that no character is entirely safe. They indicate that the reason behind making the shooting a mystery is for the fans to remain expectant for what happens in the next season.

According to Movie Pilot, actress Tatiana Maslany teased that the next season will see fans experiencing a change in pace that will be the same as the dynamics of season 1. She said, "The only thing I know for sure is that it will feel like the pace of season 1. It will have that sort of mystery."

Mason also revealed through Movie Pilot that the end of the story has already been decided. He indicated that a creative perspective about Maslany focuses on honoring the character and finalizing the story.

"Orphan Black" season 4 will return in 2016.
