Since the reveal of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, one of the most watched features is the Force Touch technology, which has been featured in a couple of other Apple devices. These includes Apple's wearable technology, the Apple Watch.
However, it appears that Apple is looking to surprise its users with the next generation of the Force Touch technology for its upcoming Apple devices, 9 to 5 Mac reported. Dubbed as the 3D Touch Display, the new feature will be an upgrade of what's present in other Force Touch-enabled devices. Instead of a two-point differentiation, between a tap and a press, the next-gen version will have three levels of pressure differentiation.
Adding to the tap and press, there will now be a deeper press, thereby expanding the shortcut gestures that will be enabled for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. This can be used in a variety of applications and actions in the iPhone.
The Force Touch tech allows users to make use of the feature in the Maps application, so it can immediately navigate to a destination more efficiently. For Music app, Force Touch can easily make more actions accessible to the user. More importantly, for mobile gamers, the presence of the 3D Touch technology for the Force Touch may also highly influence the types of games that can be created and played in the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
So far, speculations of what is known about the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus have abounded. Previous reports of a refreshed phone that would still sport a rounded edge metal design, improved internal body and cameras and the possibility of a Siri upgrade.
As for the pricing, Apple may follow the trend that it has held when pricing a refreshed version of an iPhone, TechRadar reported. Considering that the main design will not drastically change, historically, the price for the iPhone 6S may still be at $649 for a 16GB model in the U.S. Users may also want to consider the lack of two-year contracts for some U.S. carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint. However, the definitive pricing for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will all be confirmed on its reveal date.
The new Force Touch technology, as well as the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are expected to debut at the Sept. 9 San Francisco event.
