One of the rumored features integrated into the upcoming iPhone is the Force Touch technology which was first introduced in the Apple Watch and MacBook trackpad. On the other hand, new reports claim that the iPhone will sport an updated version of the technology called 3D Touch Display.
The Force Touch technology on the Apple Watch and MacBook trackpad supports only two levels of pressure; tap and press. The rumored 3D Touch Display, as the name suggests, is believed to support three dimensional pressures rather than two with the added deeper press function. This 3D technology will allow new user-interface such as shortcut gestures.
One application of the new Force Touch technology is in the Music app. Users can use Force Touch on a music track to enable some of the most commonly used actions. A deep press action can quickly add the selected song to a playlist or save it for offline playback, according to 9to5Mac.
The introduction of this new technology could lead developers to create new types of apps and games. It is also believed that it will work alongside the Taptic Engine which provides physical feedbacks to users.
Aside from the integration of this new technology, the new iPhone will also sport a new 12-megapixel camera with support for 4K video recording, a faster chipset, support for animated wallpapers and a new Rose Gold color variant.
According to Computer World, the new technology will be unveiled at the upcoming Sept. 9 Apple event and will be officially released on Sept. 18.
