The Internet browser competition just gets more competitive as Microsoft starts to peddle the Edge browser in its own Bing search engine.
Microsoft's tactic is not new at all since Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have both employed the same tactic in the past. Chrome is advertised as the best browser when users use the Google search engine in the same way Firefox is better when using the Yahoo search engine. Microsoft is the latest to enter this foray and advertised that its Edge browser is best for users using the Windows 10 operating system as well as the Bing search engine.
According to Computer World, when Windows 10 users running the Edge browser try to search for the term chrome in the Bing search engine, a small black banner will appear at the top results that reads, "Microsoft recommends Microsoft Edge for Windows 10." The banner also includes a Learn why button that redirects users to a page that highlights the benefits of using the Edge browser.
The exact same thing happens when users try to use the keyword firefox when doing their online search through Bing.
Another promotional stunt employed by Microsoft appears when Windows 10 users who are using either Firefox or Chrome uses the same keywords on Bing. In this case, a different banner appears and reads, "Try the browser for Bing & Windows 10. Microsoft Edge is here. Go now."
Prior to these new promotional stunts, Mozilla accused Microsoft of unfair browser competition, according to ZDNet. Mozilla CEO Chris Beard sent Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella an open letter stating that Microsoft is making it hard for users to change default browsers on the Windows 10 operating system.
