The consulting firm Kantar Worldpanel released its research study of the smartphone market in Brazil. The analysis suggests that Android-based smartphones are now the majority in the South American country.
According to the market analysis performed by Kantar Worldpanel, Google's mobile operating system is now on the top preferences of Brazilian customers. Android holds a strong position with 89.5 percent share of the market.
The second on the list is Microsoft's Windows for smartphones, positioned far away from the market leader. The mobile Microsoft Windows represents just a 5.9 percent share of the market.
These figures released by the consulting firm are for July. According to the market analysis, Apple's iOS accounted in the same month for around 3.5 percent of the market.
Among Android versions in use, the top position is hold by Lollipop, the OS of choice of one in five smartphone users.
Around a year ago, a previous research has found significantly different numbers. Back in Sep. 2014 Android was also the most common OS running on smartphones in Brazil, with 88.2 percent share of the market, according to PC World.
According to the report, in September 2014, iOS was on the second position on the list, with a 6.1 percent market share, while the mobile Microsoft Windows was running on 3.6 of all smartphones.
Apple announced recently that its new streaming music service will be available as well on Android devices later this fall. This announcement may further increase the dominant position of Google Android on the smartphone market in Brazil.
A separate research study conducted by IT Data and cited by came at the same conclusion that the top selling smartphones in Brazil are Android-based. Among the top models preferred by the customers, Samsung's Galaxy Grand Prime is on number one on the list, while the second is Motorola's Moto G.
