Samsung has recently developed a game-changing chip that could boost a smartphone's memory to 6GB.
According to PC Mag, the Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) built by Samsung, aside from delivering a 6GB onboard memory, is faster by 30 percent and 20 percent more energy efficient compared to the previous memory chips built by Samsung.
This PC DDR4 DRAM has a maximum speed of 2133 Mbps per pin. This DRAM is now mass produced by Samsung because they believe that this cutting-edge technology will respond to the high demand for higher memory capacity, Computerworld.
Currently, top of the line smartphones come with a 3GB RAM. With the help of this new innovation, producers can easily double the current RAM, resulting to faster phone performance, ability to multitask seamlessly and less lag time.
Although this chip doubles the current RAM flagship phones have and provide more capacity, its size has remained the same as the previous counterparts at 20 nm. Samsung has made sure that amidst this innovation, the size would not be sacrificed at all and that it would still fit into the space currently occupied by the 3GB memory chips.
While there was no mention on which companies are interested in this new innovative product, Samsung expects it to come not only on Samsung smartphones but also on other smartphones as well.
Samsung also added that this chip will not only benefit smartphones and tablets but also include ultra slim PCs, digital appliances and automotive devices, to name a few, in the years to come.
