Apple officially enters the gaming industry as the tech giant recently unveiled the latest model of Apple TV. The new Apple TV also comes in with a redesigned remote control that functions as a touchpad, microphone and essentially a Wii Remote-like controller making it the perfect gear for gaming.
According to Tech Crunch, the announcement came along with the introduction of the new Apple Store for the Apple TV. The new Apple TV remote also features a built-in gyroscope and accelerometer. It functions wirelessly through Bluetooth 4.0 and can last up to three months on a single full charge.
At the heart of the new Apple TV is the powerful A8 dual-core chip which is the same processor that powers the iPhone 6. This massive amount of processing power means that third-party developers and content creators will not face hardware resource problems. The inclusion of several sensors on the remote also opens a lot of possibility in terms of introducing new gaming experience.
Just like other gaming consoles in the market, the Apple TV will also have its set of exclusive titles. One these games are "Beat Sports," developed by Harmonix. The game is reminiscent of sports games popularized by the Wii console.
Unlike other consoles that require a specific controller in order to be played, users can use their iPhone or iPod touch as controllers. Tech experts also speculate that Apple TV will support third-party controllers in the future.
According to Engadget, Apple has already signed a deal with several game developers to create content and games for the new Apple TV. Among the confirmed titles that will be released on the Apple TV are the following: "Guitar Hero Live," "Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions," and "Skylanders SuperChargers."
