"Fifty Shades Darker" will continue to feature Jamie Dornan in the role of Christian Grey. However, before the actor was cast, Charlie Hunnam was first tapped to play the role.
In an interview with V Man, Hunnam once again spoke about leaving the franchise, and revealed how sad he was that he let his fans down.
Additionally, the actor revealed that he spoke with "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson on the phone, and the two of them cried over the fact that he will no longer play Christian Grey.
"I called her and we both cried our eyes out on the phone for 20 minutes. I needed to tell that this wasn't going to work. I was going to finish 'Sons of Anarchy,' shoot the whole sequence where Sara was brutally murdered, fly to Vancouver the next day, have ten days of rehearsal, and start shooting," he said.
After Hunnam backed out from the role, E.L. James and Universal Pictures decided to tap Dornan.
Meanwhile, Hunnam debunked rumors that he backed out of the franchise because the films would contain explicit content, according to Pop Sugar.
"The outside perception of that was that I got really cold feet and got scared of the explicit nature of the sexuality of the piece. When I was 18, I was getting f*cked in the a**, completely naked on national TV, you know?" he said.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is slated to hit theaters in the United States on Feb. 10, 2017. The film also stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
