CBS has yet to make an official announcement if "Extant" will be cancelled or renewed for season 3. The season 2 finale has aired early this week but it seems like the network is having second thoughts about the series' renewal.
Fans of the sci-fi series are reportedly worried that its ratings was not enough to get the green light. Bustle, however, claimed that they should not lose hope just yet.
The outlet pointed out that the second season was renewed October 2014. It speculated that CBS may be making the announcement some time next month.
The author also said that with the power house cast lead by Halle Berry and Dean Morgan, the network will definitely be thinking twice before cancelling the show. Executive producer Steven Spielberg would also do everything he can to save the show.
After CBS cancelled "Under the Dome," it is interesting to note that there will be a slot open for the network's summer line up. If they eventually decide to pull the trigger on "Extant" they will have some serious gap to fill.
Meanwhile, Carter Matt is not holding out hope for the series' renewal. As the season 2 finale only drew in a total of 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, many believed that it is not a good sign for the show. The outlet pointed out that "Under the Dome" got even better ratings than "Extant" and yet it was given the boot.
It was also noted that its A-list cast may be taking a toll on the production's budget. With the ratings down, it was speculated that the producers was thinking that the show is not a good investment after all.
