Jon Favreau's newly released "The Jungle Book" trailer suggests a blend of dark tone and thrilling sequences.
According to Wall Street Journal, the trailer of Favreau's "The Jungle Book" has a heart of darkness. While the film is filled with endearing characters, the trailer's jungle setting is seething with dangers. The dense jungle has also been compared to the setting of Jordan Vogt-Roberts' "Kong: Skull Island."
In addition to the thick forest as the setting, another dark element present in Favreau's "The Jungle Book" is Kaa, the villainous snake, which is played by "Avengers" actress Scarlett Johansson. Though Johansson's voiceover was initially cherishing, her voice that gave life to a gliding reptile presents an actual threat.
Along with the possible dark tone of the forthcoming live-action film is its extreme sequences. Disney's new trailer indicated that Favreau was not shy to show how action-packed his film will be, as per Buzz Feed. From Mowgli's jumps from tree to tree to the roaring fight between Shere Khan and Bagheera, Favreau's "The Jungle Book" could share some action elements with the director's infamous Marvel film, "Iron Man."
"The Jungle Book" centers on Mowgli, an orphan boy who is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther.
Aside from Johansson as Kaa, the film's voice cast includes Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Giancarlo Esposito as Akela, Lupita Nyong'o as Raksha, and Emjay Anthony as Gray. "Diwali" actor Neel Sethi is set to play the role of Mowgli, among others.
Along with "The Jungle Book," other upcoming Disney live-action films include "Beauty and the Beast," "Mulan," "Pinocchio," "The Sword In The Stone," and "Winnie the Pooh," among others.
Favreau's "The Jungle Book" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Apr. 15, 2016. Watch the trailer here:
