"Under the Dome" may have abruptly ended after three seasons but the producers explained that they were happy with how the series ended. Although they were previously holding out hope for a renewal for season 4, the showrunners held that they had no regrets when it comes to the finale episode.
Speaking to TV Line, executive producer Neal Baer shared that they had no intention of bringing the series to other networks after CBS cancelled the show. Contrary to earlier reports that they were in talks with Netflix and Hulu, Baer held that they were happy with just three seasons.
Although he admitted that the ending was made in such a way that there was room for season 4, Baer shared that he was very happy with how the finale turned out. He added that it was not necessary to add another season, explaining that they were already able bring justice to the Stephen King adaptation.
Baer shared that they did not know that season 3 will be their last. They, however, were also unsure if they will get renewed. He explained that they just wanted to give a satisfying conclusion to the story, regardless if they get cancelled or renewed.
According to Christian Post, if "Under the Dome" has been renewed for season 4, it will be extremely challenging for the writers. Baer said that they did not want to offer the audience the same story, with the cast members going to a different place and the dome going down again.
"The only thing I wish we could have done is bring back everybody in avatar form - Angie, Linda, Dodee, Reverend Coggins," he said.
