Erin Solari captured a tender moment being shared by her grandparents at a hospice, wherein her 92-year-old grandfather, Howard, sang beautifully to her 93-year-old grandma, Laura.
Today.com reported that the World War II veteran sang "You'll Never Know" by Rosemary Clooney to his dying wife. Solari explained in the YouTube caption of her video that this song is what her grandma would sing when her grandpa would go to war.
The couple have been married for 73 years. Solari shared that her grandparents sing this song together at family gatherings and they would lovingly serenade each other.
Before the video was taken, Laura requested if she could hold Howard. Solari's grandfather couldn't stand on his own, but when he heard about his wife's request, he pulled his wheelchair close to the bed ready to oblige. Solari's cousin, Serena, who's a physical therapist, helped Howard stand up.
The Telegraph reported that the couple renewed their wedding vows during their 50th anniversary and sang "You'll Never Know" for the entire family.
Laura is already blind and suffering from muscular degeneration, so she couldn't see anything except for shadows and light, according to Solari.
But you will see in the video that she was looking intently at Howard's eyes. Despite being too weak to speak, she kept saying "I love you" to her husband. She even tried saying the words of the song to him.
Howard sang sweetly to her trying to fight back the tears. He ended by saying "you're mine" to his beloved wife.
Solari said that the video uplifted a lot of people's spirits and even Laura's. The hospice eventually released her grandma saying that she's well enough to rest peacefully at home.
Laura and Howard are now spending the remaining days of their lives together, along with their supportive family.
