"The Originals" season 3 began airing on the CW spurring interest from fans of Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin) to eventually fall in love with each other. While the love is not forthcoming, there is still hope for the two characters to explore their romantic relationship amid Marshall being married to Jackson (Nathan Parsons).
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec dished on the fate of the star-crossed lovers in season 3. Plec said, "There's always hope for Haylijah in the way that we planted the seeds for a relationship that clearly wants to happen. It's just blocked by a ridiculous amount of obstacles."
Elijah and Marshall have had a share of obstacles that hindered them from being together. Although Marshall is married to Jackson, she still has feeling for Klaus Mikaelson's brother. However, the many obstacles along their way will not deter the likelihood of the two hooking up in future seasons.
Plec added, "I wouldn't say they'll never get together, because I think they have and at some point, they will again," she teased, "Now, it's really just a matter of how can Jackson and Hayley find happiness in their marriage when there is that silent elephant in the room."
Furthermore, co-executive producer Michael Narducci also informed TV Line that in the third season, Elijah will continue longing for Marshall and will only embrace the fact that she is married to a mortal. Seemingly, the original vampire will have to wait a little bit longer for the lover of his life.
As Elijah longs for Marshall, Klaus will face a lot of issues when the sire lineage comes to New Orleans.
Six months after the season 2 finale, the third season premiere commences with the Mikaelsons facing the anger of their protégés whom they intentionally abandoned hundreds of years ago.
"The Originals" season 3 debuts on Oct. 8 Thursday on CW at 9 p.m.
