"Beasts of No Nation" actor Idris Elba has shared some details on his role in Justin Lin's upcoming action sci-fi film "Star Trek Beyond."
Elba will play villain in Lin's forthcoming film. In his interview with MTV to promote Cary Joji Fukunaga's war drama film "Beasts of No Nation," Elba said that while his role is a "classic bad guy" in "Star Trek Beyond," fans would see a mild change to the character.
Fans have been speculating that Elba, while set to play a villain, would play a Klingon, as per Cinema Blend. Previous rumors said that the villains in Lin's "Star Trek Beyond" would be the Klingons, as the characters have not been fully exposed by the franchise.
According to Elba, the "Star Trek" franchise had established itself as being relatively definitive with regard to antagonists, who are described as individuals who want to terminate the world. For the actor, fans will be engaged in an interesting journey, which he considered as the franchise's cutting-edge.
Aside from "Star Trek Beyond" and "Beast of No Nation," Elba will also be part of Jom O'Hanlon's drama film "A Hundred Streets," James Watkins and Jill Gage's action film "Bastille Day," Jon Favreau's live-action "The Jungle Book," and Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane's animated film "Finding Dory."
Meanwhile, "Star Trek Beyond" serves as the sequel to J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness" and acts as the thirteenth film of the "Star Trek" franchise. Along with Elba, "Star Trek Beyond" stars Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Sofia Boutella, Simon Pegg, and Zachary Quinto, among others.
At this point, exact details on the plot, additional characters, and cast are yet to be revealed.
Lin's "Star Trek Beyond" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 8, 2016 while Fukunaga's "Beasts of No Nation" hits theaters on Oct. 16.
