The premiere episode of "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 has focused on Emma Swan's struggle in becoming the new Dark One. With the Savior of Storybrooke in trouble, Regina Mills/Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) will temporarily take Emma Swan's place in the ABC TV series' new season while finding out a way to bring Emma back to the good side.
According to Comic Book Movie, the OUAT characters will be dealing with Emma Swan as the new Dark One in season 5. The new season of ABC's fairy tale drama series will also have the heroes start their search for Merlin (Elliot Knight).
The promo video of "Once Upon a Time" Season 2, episode 2 titled "The Price" teased that Regina will have a hard time being the new Savior of Storybrooke. The Dark Swan warns in the promo video about a problem headed to Storybrooke that only a Savior can solve.
Regina feels helpless in the promo video since the Dark Swan wants the Evil Queen to step up to the plate and do what needs to be done. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, OUAT executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz talk about the rise of the Dark Swan and Regina's role as Storybrooke's leader in "Once Upon a Time" Season 5.
Kitsis teased that the new season will explore on the OUAT characters like Regina, Snow White/Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming/David (Josh Dallas), Henry (Jared S. Gilmore) and Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) feeling helpless when it comes to saving Emma Swan. Kitsis further added that the upcoming "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 episodes will reveal what really happened in Camelot and Emma's relationship with the other characters will be put to the test.
Meanwhile, Regina will start to feel the pressure of her new role in "Once Upon a Time" Season 5. Horowitz teased that being a Savior is a huge responsibility for Regina since the evil and the darkness are still a part of her even though she has put her villain side out of the way for some time now.
"She's struggling with how does she do the right thing and how does she help Emma?" Horowitz said the EW interview. "Once Upon a Time" Season 5 will return with episode 2 titled "The Price" on Sunday night, Oct. 4, at 8/7c on ABC.
