Soft drink manufacturer Pepsi announced that it will release a limited edition bottle using the theme from "Back To The Future" movie franchise. The new limited edition product will be marketed under a new brand name "Pepsi Perfect."
In "Back to the Future Part II" movie which was released in 1989, a Pepsi product appeared on a brief cameo. Pepsi is trying to emulate that same product design. In the film, a bottle of Pepsi was delivered to Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) through a tube.
According to Fortune, the bottle will be sold as a collectible. Pepsi said that only 6,500 bottles will be made and each bottle will cost $20.15.
In order to keep the integrity of the product with the film's timeline, the limited edition bottle will be released on Oct. 21, the same date that McFly traveled back into the future in the film. Pepsi is planning to sell the bottle online and the company recommends interested buyers to check the company's social media accounts in order to know where or how they can purchase it.
According to USA Today, Pepsi will distribute 1,500 Pepsi Perfect bottles ahead of the general release during the New York Comic Con. Pepsi added that they will only give out the collectible item to fans who dressed as Marty McFly in order to "complete their outfit."
When asked about the specific scene in the "Back To The Future Part II" movie where the Pepsi bottle appeared, PepsiCo senior director of marketing said in a statement, "Fans have always been a little crazy about it and so we wanted to take advantage of the fact that Marty travelled to the future, to this month, and wanted to actually come out with the product."
