Google Nexus 4 users have something to smile about after the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update unofficially made its way to the outdated device.
While the Nexus 4 was launched a couple of years ago, the device still has good specs amid the release of better phones.
For those who still own the smartphone, there is a way of updating to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow version, although there will be no monthly updates for the unofficially downloaded update.
The 2012 Google smartphone can now unofficially get hands on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow version, thanks to Dmitry Grinberg, according to 9to5Google. Nexus 4 users can create the image file of the ROM through AOSP, but the build can still be downloaded here.
Grinberg got his hands on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Nexus 4 after the launch of the version for Nexus 7 by Google. He then modified the update to make is applicable for the 2012 smartphone, Liliputing reported.
Aside from the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the search engine giant also rolled out the new line of Nexus gadgets including the long-awaited and rumored Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. Fans will have the new line of Nexus devices by the end of this October.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will also run on the following devices: Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and the Nexus Player. However, smartphones from other phone makers have no ETA as to when the update will roll out.
Apart from the latest UI advancements, the Nexus 4 will take advantage of the battery saving Doze feature. Users will also benefit from the new app permission controls to avoid interfering app at bay.
