The cinematic adaptation of "Batman: The Killing Joke" could end up with an R-Rating.
On Oct. 10, Disney blog Stitch Kingdom tweeted a status on its official Twitter account. The post said that DC had given permission to producer and animator James Tucker to craft a "Killing Joke" film for an R-Rating. In another tweet on the same date, Stitch Kingdom clarified that Tucker said he had been given the go signal to craft "Killing Joke" for R-rating, but it did not entail that he would.
Meanwhile, Tucker tweeted on his official Twitter account, saying that he was not directing the "Killing Joke" film and he got quoted out of context at the New York Comic Con. However, the producer-animator said the rating the forthcoming project would get would not be thought about for a long time.
According to Cinema Blend, DC would not draw back from adapting the "more vicious" elements of the source material for the project, which would be thrilling for fans. However, one problem was that the animated format might not perfectly mirror the features of what was in the pages of the comic book by toning it down, as per the publication.
One of the most crucial scenes in the story was when The Joker shot Batgirl at the back, which paralyzed the latter. Gotham's Clown Prince stripped her naked and took pictures of her to torment Commissioner Gordon. According to Batman-News, it would be challenging for the studio not to set the film as R-rating due to such elements.
At this point, exact details on the plot, characters, cast, and release date are yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, Batman, played by Ben Affleck, is set to appear in Snyder's forthcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which will lead to the rise of the superhero team Justice League. The film also stars Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, and Amy Adams, among others.
On the other hand, Jared Leto will play The Joker in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad," which also stars Viola Davis, Common, Joel Kinnaman, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara, Jai Courtney, Will Smith, and Margot Robbie, among others.
Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set to be aired in two separate teasers on Oct. 26 while the film is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Mar. 25, 2016. Meanwhile, Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is set premiere in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
