Will his waking up from coma and being given a second chance to live be the turning point in the life of former Lakers player Lamar Odom?
That is the question that followers of the athlete would want to observe in the coming time after reports came out on Friday that Odom, who suffered from multiple ischemic stroke and kidney failure, woke up from a medically induced coma.
Alvina Alston, publicist for JaNean Mercer, the godmother and maternal aunt of Odom, confirmed that the ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, who was found unconscious on Tuesday afternoon after drug overdose, spoke on Friday morning and gave his thumbs up after waking up.
His first words were reportedly "Hey, baby" when he saw Khloe. He also spoke to his two children, 17-year-old Destiny and 13-year-old Lamar Jr., who came with their mother Liza Morales. After this, he went back to sleep, reports Hollywood Life.
Mercer, who helped raised Lamar in New York, says, "His complete healing is paramount and our primary focus." She adds, "No words can express the overwhelming gratitude we feel for the outpouring of support from around the world," quote Yahoo Sports.
Khloe also thanked fans for their kindness and understanding on her blog-like app. Before Lamar - who had been taken off the ventilator - woke up, the Kardashians held off posting anything on their apps as they attended to Lamar.
Family members consider what happened on Friday morning as a miracle. Odom's recovery belied previous reports that the NBA star has become brain dead as a result of his overdose from taking 10 tablets of Reload, a herbal supplement that actually contains the same ingredient as Viagra, over three days that he was in Love Brothel in Crystal, Nevada.
Odom, who paid $75,000 to have sex with two sex trade workers, Ryder Cherry and Mercy Monroe, also reportedly took crack cocaine.
His waking from coma, considered miraculous, could also be attributed to the prayers made by fans as well as the pray over by Rev. Jesse Jackson. The bigger question now is will this second chance at life jolt Odom into dropping the vices that is said to have caused the problems in his marriage?
Kardashian followers would also surely want to know if this episode would pave the way for his reconciliation with Khloe who has admitted she never lost her love for him and amid reports that their divorce has not yet been finalized.
