The LTE implementation, known as Long Term Evolution or commonly known as the 4G LTE by AT&T and Verizon, is said to be vulnerable to few issues in android system.
According to ZD Net, LTE with the android phones causes snooping, data spoofing, and over-billing for most of the phones. Many of the T-mobile customers have been affected by this issue; however, this issue with T-mobile has already been solved, as reported by their spokesperson.
On the other hand, Apple phones are unaffected by this LTE issue. LTE, prominently known as 4G, is dependent on packet switching. It is a common way of transferring data via the internet, unlike circuit switching. While this method allows new kind of attacks against Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), it is dominantly used in voice calling and messaging.
Researchers have established a means which makes use of the methodology of SIP by taking-off phone numbers for calls or text messages. It's quite possible for any invader to get hold of free bandwidth for extra data-intensive actions, like video calling, lacking any additional costs.
In few of the cases, an assailant can establish numerous SIP sessions at the same instance, leading to a rebuff of facility attack on the internet. This can lead to a call being made devoid of providing feedback to the user, as per XDA Developers.
As per the researchers, every android phone is at high risk; however, sources confirmed that this issue will be fixed very soon.
Hence, it is recommended to be a little careful to use LTE before the issue is fixed.
