Canadian smartphone maker Blackberry Ltd. recently unveiled its first Android smartphone, the Blackberry Priv, which is expected to ship on Nov. 6 initially in the U.K. market. The Blackberry Priv was available for pre-order for $895 in the U.K., via online retailer Carphone Warehouse.
Specs-wise, the Blackberry Priv sports a 5.4-inch AMOLED dual-curved edge touchscreen with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. The phone also comes with a hidden physical QWERTY keyboard that uses the SmartSlide technology, according to Blackberry.
The Priv has a sharp 18MP camera on the back and a 2 megapixel shooter on the front. The main camera uses Schneider-Kreuznach certified optics with dual-LED flash, autofocus, and optical image stabilization feature.
Under the hood, the Priv packs a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 1.8GHz hexa-core processor along with 3GB of RAM, up to 32GB of expandable built-in memory storage, and powered by a massive 3,410 mAh battery.
The internal memory can be expanded up to a whopping 200GB space via microSD card. In addition, the Priv is expected to be available in black and will run on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system, according to GSM Arena.
Other features of the new phone include Blackberry's exclusive DTEK warning system that will offer would-be owners advanced security and privacy. Also, the phone weighs about 190 grams and measures 147x77.2x9.4 mm in dimensions.
The Blackberry Priv is expected to arrive in global markets such as Europe and North America. As of this time, it's unclear when the new phone will arrive in emerging markets.
