Japanese automaker Mazda Motor Corporation recently issued a recall order covering about 15,000 Mazda3 compact cars. The recall order was issued after the company discovered an issue on the cars fuel shut-off valve.
Part of the recall were Mazda3 cars with model year 2015 and 2016 manufactured from May 21, 2015 to August 25, 2015, according to Consumer Affairs.
The recalled cars are equipped with fuel tanks whose shut-off valve has the possibility to allow fuel to enter into the fuel tank emission system. When this happens and enough fuel enters the car's emission system, it may cause the fuel to leak and may also cause the engine to stall.
The recently discovered fuel leak problem may also increase the risk of fire when exposed to an ignition source. On the other hand, if the car's engine will stall it increases the risk of a car crash.
Owners of affected cars are advised not to drive their vehicles until proper maintenance and repairs are made. Mazda will provide affected car owners with a rental car until everything is fixed.
According to Auto Guide, 14,720 vehicles were affected in the United States while 136 are affected in Puerto Rico. Mazda will begin notifying affected car owners within the next couple of weeks. Owners will be advised to bring their vehicles into authorized dealers in order to fix the issue if the faulty valve is found. Mazda will also cover the repair cost of affected vehicles.
As of this writing, no accident or injury related to the problem were reported.
