The All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF) will host a women’s handicraft expo in Yiwu from Oct. 21-25 to help women find employment and develop their talents in business, according to a report by womenofchina.cn.
The event, located in east China's Zhejiang Province, will coincide with the annual China Yiwu International Commodities Fair and will attempt to implement the central government's new policies on public entrepreneurship and innovation.
The handicraft industry is another platform for women to find employment and possibly start a career.
With a total of 175 stands, the event has managed to attract more than 230 women's hand-weaving associations and companies which were organized by women's federations from each of China's provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
The exhibitions will showcase numerous traditional Chinese folk handicrafts such as embroidered, woven and sculpted items, among many others.
The event will also feature Dong Brocade, a form of fine embroidery from central China's Hunan Province that has been included in Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Some of the handicrafts also incorporate modern designs and innovations. They are also renowned at home and abroad for their daring and unique style, making them popular among a wide range of consumers.
Furthermore, the ACWF has given great emphasis on the development of the industry. In recent years, the federation has provided women guidance and proper training for hand weaving programs, garnering over 10 million women from over 50,000 communities and villages.
The expo will help in gathering more support for the handicraft industry and raise awareness for women's potential in contributing to economic development.
