Marvel Studios' "Ant-Man" had a strong opening at the Chinese box office over the weekend, grossing $43.2 million from Friday to Sunday.
The film marks Disney and Marvel's second-biggest opening in China of all time, next only to "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
The film did considerably worse in North America, debuting to $58 million in July, Marvel Studios' second-lowest opening, next only to "Incredible Hulk" in 2008 ($55.4 million)
With a lot to be grateful for from foreign territories, the global total of "Ant-Man" is currently at $454.6 million.
The hit comedy "Goodbye Mr. Loser" grossed $46.69 million from Oct. 12-18, making it the week's strongest film in the Chinese box office. This made its 19-day cumulative gross of $188.9 million, according to Entgroup.
Mahua FunAge, a privately owned Beijing theater company, produced the low-budget "Goodbye Mr. Loser" as its first film, with Wanda Media co-producing. It features first-timers as directors and cast.
"The Little Prince," directed by Mark Osborne, placed third this week in the Chinese box office with $10.9 million over three days. The film used an all-star Chinese voice cast, including Huang Bo and Zhou Xun, to connect with Chinese audiences.
Fourth in the Chinese box office is Xu Zheng's "Lost in Hong Kong," which grossed $6.76 million over the week, totaling 252.13 million for its 24-day run. It is the third highest earner ever in the Chinese box office, next only to "Furious 7" and "Monster Hunt."
Fifth place went to science fiction film "Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe," which grossed $5.92 million, bringing its total to $106 million after 19 days in the theaters.
