Microsoft Outlook is getting another major upgrade for its iOS and Android app. The upgrade will be released in November and will feature the calendar app Sunrise.
The calendar app Sunrise was acquired by Microsoft in February. Since then, the two companies have been busy working on redesigning Outlook. According to Engadget, the new Outlook now has a daily view that allows users to view their daily activities and features an easy to use scrollable list.
On Outlook's email features, it now highlight event invites right into the user's inbox allowing them to RSVP even without opening the message.
On the iOS platform, the inbox layout now features colorful new icons that represent event invitations. The calendar app also receives a new design and now shows that current date on its icon. It can also display multiple calendar events simultaneously.
On the Android platform, Outlook was redesigned in order to fit better with the operating system's material design principle and system design that is common across all Android apps. Some minor tweaks include a feature that allows inbox to show the images of the contact that sent an email, provided that that user has a photo on its address book.
The Outlook iOS update will be released on Oct. 28. The same update will be rolled out to the Android platform in the following weeks.
The current Outlook design team is headed by Javier Soltero who joined Microsoft after the company acquired Acompli. Soltero told PC World, "Before I got here, the charter for the Outlook team was about consistency, and they believed that things needed to look the same, and what made Outlook, Outlook was a visual thing."
